In this latest work in-situ TEM experiments using the #FusionAX system have uncovered the oxidation from wüstite-magnetite (FeO@Fe3O4) core-shell nanoparticles to single crystalline magnetite, Fe3O4 nanoparticles.
Using the ‘Ashby-Brown contrast,’ the structural changes of these materials can be tracked as well as compositional shifts in iron oxide nanoparticles.
As these nanoparticles transform and fully oxidize, the diffraction contrast evolves and eventually vanishes, confirming the findings through precise modeling and simulation.
This represents a groundbreaking, simplified approach to unveiling the hidden oxidation or reduction mechanisms of nanoparticles.
